Beautifully presented, early Phase 1 1.6 GTi, featuring low ownership, modest mileage and finished in a classic colour combination. Introduced in 1984, the 1.6-litre GTi quickly established itself as a benchmark for modern performance hatchbacks, renowned for its sharp handling and responsive, high-revving engine. This UK-supplied late 1986 example (1987 model-year) features the upgraded 1,580cc XU5JA engine with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel-injection, producing 115bhp at 6,250rpm and 98.4lb/ft of torque.
It retains correct Phase 1 specification, including Siem driving lamps, round-base door mirrors, a rear spoiler with squared ends bonded to the rear screen and the fluted rear applique with Peugeot and 205 GTi badges in place. Finished in Alpine White, the interior is original Phase 1 with grey cloth bolsters, 'Quattro' velour cloth panel inserts, bright red carpets and a factory-fitted sunroof. Showing 70,964 miles with just three former keepers, including its first owner for 23 years, it's supplied with the original service book and pack, large history file and original key plus two spares.
Recently serviced with a new cambelt, fresh fluids and filters, it has seen minimal use since passing an MOT with 'no advisories' in March this year.
