Chassis No. 1809, this 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet began life as one of 353 coupes built by Pininfarina from 1958 through 1960. In 2015, the car was imported to the U.S. after being acquired from noted U.K. Ferrari collector Steve Pilkington, who had begun the conversion of the car to 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione specification. It was then turned over to Ferrari specialists Norwood Autocraft in Rockwell, Texas, whose skilled artisans completed the handmade, all-aluminum coachwork in 2019. The completed car is a true treasure, completely faithful to Pinin Farina’s design and Ferrari’s robust construction.

The classic coachwork shows such signature LWB features as four-vent fender louvers, enclosed headlights and a functional hood scoop, and it’s completed with gorgeous Rosso Chiaro paint. A new black interior was fitted as part of the conversion, comprising new leather upholstery on the seats, door panels, transmission tunnel and console, matching black carpets, a polished Ferrari shift knob, console ashtray, Veglia instrumentation and a wood-rimmed steering wheel.

Built on the 250 GT’s large-section tube frame, the car incorporates unequal-length, double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs and a live rear axle with semi-elliptical springs, Ferrari’s twin parallel trailing arms and telescoping shock absorbers. An upgrade first seen in 1960 models is this car’s Dunlop 4-wheel disc brakes, in this case backing Borrani 16-inch knock-off wire wheels fitted with Michelin radial tires.

Ferrari specialists Roelofs Engineering in Rheden, Netherlands, rebuilt the Colombo-designed 3.0L Tipo 128F SOHC V-12 engine (No. 1809GT), which features outside-positioned spark plugs, triple 36mm Weber downdraft carburetors on individual intake ports, and twin distributors upgraded with electronic ignition but assembled to retain the correct period look. A 4-speed manual transmission completes the drivetrain. A truly expert conversion to coveted LWB California configuration, this magnificent Prancing Horse is registered in New York as a 1959 Ferrari Convertible.
