Beneath its relatively understated appearance, this Renault 5 turbo 2 is truly unique. It was a special order from the Qatari Embassy in Paris, which is exceptional for a rally car. Ordered according to the wishes of Emir Al-Thani and registered on the 20th April 1984 under the diplomatic number 126 CD 108, it had an iridescent black exterior paint and Gotti rims, as well as a special interior finish unlike any other: Turbo 1 seats with leather and striped black fabric, as dashboard entirely covered in leather, leather-rimmed steering wheel, electric windows and mirrors, old Thomson phone.
There were also mechanical modifications, which included the “Cevennes” suspension and apparently, a “200 hp” kit with forged pistons and a special exhaust. With only 15,000 km on the odometer, this car was barely used when it was sold in October 1999 to its second owner. The latter got it serviced regularly while driving it modestly; when it was purchased in February 2023 by its 3rd and current owner, the mileage was then just below 27,900 km. Today, this car greatly benefits from its “quiet” history, which is rare for this homologation special. It’s highly-well preserved and retains unique specifications of its special order.
Accompanied by its user manual, its service logbook and a Renault certificate, it has the exceptional dynamic qualities of this rally car model that symbolises the arrival of the turbo. It will definitely attract the attention of enthusiasts looking to acquire a version that remains truly unmatched.
