As Ferrari’s first hybrid hypercar, the LaFerrari represented a landmark point in the famed manufacturer’s history. Just 499 examples of the standard coupé were made, each allocated to Ferrari’s most loyal clientele, with most of those cloaked in the recognisable factory shades of black, red, silver, white, or yellow. A small allocation from the LaFerrari production run deviated from the norm—as close to the norm as can be for a monster machine topping 950 horsepower—with very few of those written into Ferrari lore with custom colours. The LaFerrari was configured in its distinctive shade of green by Jay Kay, the frontman of Jamiroquai and a noted car collector. The musician placed the order through Dick Lovett Sporting Ltd, the prominent Ferrari dealer based in Swindon, England, with its handover date of 24 June 2014 coinciding with the day it was registered for the road in the United Kingdom. To complement the unique Signal Green exterior, the LaFerrari was finished with a roof presented in exposed carbon fibre—believed to be one of only 50 to take this option—and a generous application of the lightweight material around its sculpted body.
The brake callipers were painted in Giallo Modena to complete a colourful side-profile, while the five-spoke alloy wheels were a product of Ferrari’s Tailor Made ultra-exclusive list of options.
Around the interior, the colour scheme mirrors the LaFerrari’s bold exterior styling. The vivid design pairs black and green leather throughout, with distinctive contrast green stitching seen on the seats and steering wheel. The Ferrari was specified with driver and passenger seats sized “Large”, while further options included front and rear suspension lift, a track camera recording system, and fitted luggage set in matching green. For a personal touch, “Jamiroquai” was etched onto the base of the steering wheel.
In Jay Kay’s ownership, the LaFerrari was routinely maintained by UK-based Ferrari workshops including its supplying dealer Dick Lovett further to Maranello Sales Ltd, Joe Macari, and HR Owen of London. A list of main dealer maintenance is recorded by Ferrari’s Maintenance Register and can be viewed on file.
While Jay Kay used the LaFerrari sparingly, with its service history noting an odometer reading of just over 3,000 kilometres by the time he parted with the car in April 2019, the musician was repeatedly seen in public with his green machine. It is, after all, hard to hide from the cameras in a Signal Green LaFerrari. The Jamiroquai singer notably ran the LaFerrari at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed just days after taking delivery. There, he was seen cautiously threading the LaFerrari through the bends of the famous hill climb course. At Goodwood, Jay Kay commented: “I wanted to make a statement. It is all about the car.
I think [the Signal Green colour] gives the car a personality and it gives it a uniqueness—it deserves it. It’s not often that I order a new car, most of mine are classics… so when I do, I like to make a bit of an event of it. I thought this “Italian-flag green” would be appropriate, with the red lights.”
In 2017, the Ferrari was exhibited at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena, Italy as part of the “Driving with the Stars” showcase, shown alongside Prancing Horse legends then or once belonging to actors, musicians, and other celebrities. After the Jamiroquai frontman sold the car in 2019, the Ferrari stayed in the UK with its next owner. It subsequently returned to Maranello Sales for servicing in June 2020 and Ferrari main dealer Jardine Colchester on three further occasions. Around 2023, it is believed that the Ferrari changed hands once more, with subsequent servicing undertaken by LUEG Sportivo GmbH (the Ferrari main dealer for Düsseldorf), Scuderia Gohm of Vösendorf, Austria, and Emil Frey Sportivo GmbH of Munich.
Prior to the LaFerrari leaving British shores, Ferrari dealer Jardine Colchester completed a service, high-voltage battery replacement, and the fitment of four new tyres with a workshop bill totalling £99,978. In February 2026, the hybrid battery system was tested again, this time by the dealer Emil Frey. The high-voltage system was noted at 71 per cent state of charge, with the low-voltage system at 97 per cent. While with the Emil Frey workshop, the LaFerrari was subject to its most recent annual service, and at that point its odometer read only 11,154 kilometres. Later in the year, the LaFerrari returned for exhibition at the Ferrari museum.
The LaFerrari is accompanied by a history file replete with its many main dealer service entries charted on the Genuine Maintenance Program register.
Every LaFerrari is special, with each hybrid hypercar heralding from such a limited production run, while some demand attention for their unique specification. This Signal Green example is perhaps chief among those, enhanced by its famous ownership history, limited use, and meticulous care. The rare opportunity to acquire such a recognisable and significant car should not be missed.
