Penned by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina with coachwork handcrafted at Scaglietti and boasting a sonorous 5.0-litre flat twelve-cylinder engine, it is easy to see why Ferrari’s 512 Berlinetta Boxer was revered for both its beauty and potency. Autocar remarked at the time that ‘Ferrari had done a magnificent job’ with the 512 BB, whilst Road & Track declared it to be ‘the best all-around sports and GT car we’ve tested.’

This example was delivered in July of 1981 to a dealer in Bolzano and retains its factory specification of Grigio Ferro metallic, with Pelle Nera interior. In contrast to many other examples, it was also specified senza strisce nera, meaning that the body is uniformly painted metallic, rather than having black below the waistline. It is all the more desirable for it.

It is offered in wonderful condition and is accompanied by its Classiche binder and certification, which attests to the fact that the car is entirely original. Its fully stamped service book and original warranty card also remain with the car and weave a rich tapestry of its life to date, tracing its journeys from Italy to Germany, Belgium and finally France.

Dessinée par Leonardo Fioravanti pour Pininfarina, avec une carrosserie fabriquée par Scaglietti et un impressionnant moteur 12-cylindres à plat 5 litres, il est facile de comprendre pourquoi la Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer a été admirée tant pour sa beauté que pour sa puissance. Le magazine Autocar soulignait à l'époque : "Ferrari a fait un travail magnifique" avec la 512 BB, alors que, pour Road & Track, il s'agissait de "la meilleure voiture de sport et de Grand Tourisme que nous ayons jamais essayée".

Cet exemplaire a été livré en juillet 1981 à un distributeur de Bolzano et affiche ses spécifications d'usine, Grigio Ferro métallisé, avec intérieur Pelle Nera. Par contraste avec d'autres exemplaires, cette voiture a été commandée senza strisce nera, ce qui signifie que la carrosserie est uniformément revêtue d'une peinture métallisée, au lieu de présenter un bandeau noir sous la ceinture de caisse. Elle n'en est que plus désirable.
