From long term ownership, this Mk1 GTi remains in very good order having been restored over time and benefiting from a rebuilt engine with minimal mileage since. .
The 1.8-litre GTi was introduced in 1982 as the more powerful evolution of Volkswagen’s first generation GTi, now regarded as a landmark performance hatchback. Purchased by our vendor 13 years ago, the VW has gradually been restored over time with detailed photographic evidence on file. Finished in factory black following a professional respray in 2022, sitting on its original Tarantula alloy wheels, over a charcoal and light grey striped cloth interior. Powered by the 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a manual gearbox, the engine was rebuilt in 2020 with new pistons, bearings, a reconditioned cylinder head, oil pump, timing belt and water hoses.
The braking system was refreshed with new rear drums and handbrake cable in 2023, the car otherwise remains close to standard specification aside from routine upkeep. Supplied with a comprehensive file of documentation including invoices, bills, VAG service book, original VAG plates, records of restoration and maintenance history and MOT Certificates. A very usable Mk1 GTi, well maintained and ready to be enjoyed immediately, while offering future potential as an appreciating modern classic.
