Of all the fantastic road machines built by Porsche since the first 356 in 1948, none even comes close to comparing to the Carrera GT, Zuffenhausen’s official entry into the supercar sweepstakes. The Carrera GT represents the sum of all the company’s race engineering skill and knowledge, from its all-carbon fiber monocoque frame and engine cradle, pushrod-actuated A-arm suspension and Ceramic Composite brakes and clutch to its Le Mans-inspired 5.7 L/650 HP V-10 engine and 6-speed manual transmission.
The GT’s appearance advances the race car vibe with a screened engine cover, twin roll hoops, elevating rear spoiler and the broad beam necessary to accommodate its wide and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 2 rubber. But there is another aspect to this car, and it’s found inside the beautifully crafted cockpit, where Porsche’s renowned build quality and ergonomic expertise shine through in its cocoon-like seating, abundant leather upholstery and trim, Porsche-typical instrumentation and controls and luxury amenities like power windows, air conditioning and CD sound system.
But the truth is in the Carrera GT’s astonishing performance, which is almost enough to make the driver think the car is reading his mind. Think zero to 60 in 3.8 seconds, 11-second quarter mile times and a top speed of over 200 mph. In other words, the Carrera GT is far and away the best roadgoing Porsche ever made, and that includes this sterling 2005 example in extremely desirable Black on Black. Driven just 6,735 miles, this Carrera GT received a complete engine-out Porsche dealer service (including a rare recall operation) fewer than 300 miles ago on May 14, 2012, confirming the driveline, specifically the clutch, is well within the factory service parameters.
It is documented with clean Carfax and Autocheck reports and accompanied by the window sticker, complete key set and factory luggage.
