The 1996 Ferrari 550 Maranello succeeded the last iteration of the Testarossa F512M and marked the return of a traditional front-engined V-12 coupe configuration not seen from Maranello since the mid-engine Berlinetta Boxer succeeded the 365 GTB/4 Daytona in 1973. The V-12 coupe formula once again proved successful, and in 2002, Ferrari created the 575M evolution of the 550 Maranello factory modified onto a higher plane of V-12 two-seater berlinetta performance and refinement. This late-production 2004 Ferrari 575M Maranello was factory equipped with the F1 6-speed automated gearbox, and it comes with service documentation.
An increase in displacement combined with revised engine management brought V-12 power output up to a factory-rated 515 HP at 7,250 RPM. The V-12 is backed by a F1 6-speed electrohydraulic automated manual gearbox in the rear-mounted transaxle for imperceptibly quick and positive gear changes with a touch of the steering-wheel-mounted paddle-shift controls. This 575M features the factory-improved steering sensor, which along with revised F1 Motronic ECU with integrated suspension management brought improved throttle response and road handling to match increased V-12 power.
The 575M coupe features a narrower and taller front grille with xenon HID headlamp assemblies that negated the 550-specification fog lamps. Hand-stitched red and black leather envelops the driver and passenger in two-place berlinetta grand-touring sport luxury. As supercar performance demands an equal level of maintenance, the 575M comes with service documentation stretching back almost a decade. Initial belt service was followed by scheduled maintenance and inspections with replacement parts ranging from control-station wiring harness and steering-column covers to a new battery installed earlier this year.
The 575M rides on a larger-diameter and larger-width wheel and tire package than its 550 predecessor, and it includes a spare and factory-issue tool kit in its spacious trunk.
