Mr Tunks enjoyed the Aston until he died in 2008, and when the car was offered for sale at auction in 2010 he was described in the catalogue as 'a conscientious and knowledgeable motoring enthusiast'. The history file reveals that this was a 'time warp' example, described as retaining its original paintwork and interior at the time, had covered fewer than 38,000 miles from new, with all servicing carried out by the Aston Martin factory, main agents and marque specialists.
Due to Mr Tunks' poor health, the Aston's use in later years had been restricted to MoT visits. In November 2007 at 37,301 miles, marque specialists R S Williams Ltd carried out a major service at a cost of £5,108, while the last MoT certificate was issued on 18th November 2009 at 37,550 miles.
The aforementioned history file contains service receipts, MoT certificates, an old V5 registration document (reg number BPJ 66H), and the service booklet (stamped to 31,008 miles).
Upon its acquisition by our vendor at the 2010 auction the Aston was exported from the UK, and since when has been kept on static display as part of his extensive private collection and has not been driven (the current odometer reading is 37,592 miles). Recommissioning will be required before this car returns to the road.
This DB6's degree of originality is truly remarkable; indeed, of the 245 Mark 2 models made, there surely cannot be many unrestored survivors. A worthy candidate for 'Conservation Class' on the concours scene, it is worthy of the closest inspection.
