For over 50 years, the Porsche 911 has enjoyed an enviable record as one of the finest sports cars on the planet. It is the benchmark to which all other sports cars compare themselves and are compared to. It remains, to this day, the most revered model in Porsche’s vaunted history. While all 911s are truly brilliant cars, the best of them are born and bred in the crucible of motorsport. Built to homologate the 3.8-litre RSR for competition in BPR GT3 and GT4 racing, the road-going Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is essentially a racing car built for the road.
At its heart is the 3.8-litre normally aspirated Type M64/20 engine producing a factory-rated 296 horsepower at 6,500 rpm along with 262 foot-pounds of torque at 5,400 rpm. The innovative Variocam variable-length intake system from Porsche and newly designed forged pistons of a reduced height (thanks to a relocated wrist pin), help to keep piston weight below that of the standard 3.8-litre engine. This distinctive powerplant also sports dual-oil coolers and lightened rocker arms, among a host of additional upgrades that heightened the car’s performance—all befitting its role as a homologation special. Power is managed through a Type G50/31 six-speed manual transmission; the gearing was optimised for acceleration, rather than top speed.
Suspension upgrades implemented on the RS 3.8 included a front strut brace, ball-joint front damper mounts, and adjustable anti-roll bars with five positions for the 24-milimetre front bar and three positions for the 21-milimetre rear piece. Porsche also fitted a limited-slip differential, as well as anti-lock brakes sourced from the 993 Turbo and ADB traction control. Immense 265/35ZR-18R tyres on the rear and 225/40ZR-18 on the front are mounted on specially made 18-inch “Speedline for Porsche” three-piece, light-alloy wheels with magnesium centres, which are nine inches wide in the front and 11 inches wide in the back.
Furthermore, the engineers at Stuttgart went to fanatical lengths to make the Carrera RS as light as possible. Its base weight was brought down to a svelte 1,280 kilograms, as Porsche deleted virtually everything that was unnecessary—including central locking, radio speakers, power-adjustable seats, electric windows and mirrors, sound insulation, air bags, the rear defroster, and even the headliner. However, Porsche didn’t stop there: the Carrera RS features thinner window glass, an aluminium front boot lid and doors, Recaro seats, and lightweight interior door panels with traditional fabric pulls.
The car offered for sale here is one of just 1,104 examples produced of the 993-generation Carrera RS. Presented in the classic exterior colour befitting of a stripped down racer, Speed Yellow, the interior complements with two-tone Black-Grey leather seats featuring perforated centre sections.
Completed by the factory on 25 July 1995, the Porsche was originally delivered to Switzerland as new. The odometer reads just 27,419 kilometres at the time of cataloguing, and the car shows in wonderful condition as a result, notably retaining its matching-numbers engine. The Porsche is accompanied by owner’s manuals, a service booklet, and a tool roll.

Seit über 50 Jahren steht der Porsche 911 im beneidenswerten Ruf, einer der besten Sportwagen der Welt zu sein. Er ist der Maßstab, an dem sich alle anderen Sportwagen messen. Bis heute ist er das meistverehrte Modell der ruhmreichen Porsche Geschichte. Und während alle 911er brillante Autos sind, entstanden die besten unter ihnen unter dem Mantra des Motorsports. Den Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 gab es, um den 3,8-Liter-RSR für die BPR GT3 und GT4 Rennen homologieren zu können – er ist im Grunde ein Rennwagen, der für die Straße gebaut wurde.
Sein Herzstück ist der 3,8-Liter-Saugmotor vom Typ M64/20, der eine Leistung von 300 PS bei 6500/min und ein Drehmoment von 355 Nm bei 5400/min erreicht. Das innovative VarioCam-Ansaugsystem von Porsche und neu konstruierte Schmiedekolben mit geringerer Höhe (dank eines verlegten Kolbenbolzens) tragen dazu bei, das Kolbengewicht unter dem des 3,8-Liter-Serienmotors zu halten. Neben einer Reihe von leistungssteigernden Verbesserungen im Sinne der Homologation verfügt dieses besondere Triebwerk außerdem über zwei Ölkühler und leichtere Kipphebel, Die Kraftübertragung erfolgt über ein Sechsgang-Handschaltgetriebe vom Typ G50/31, dessen Übersetzungen eher auf gute Beschleunigung denn auf Höchstgeschwindigkeit ausgelegt worden waren.
Die Fahrwerksoptimierungen beim RS 3.8 umfassten eine Domstrebe und Kugelgelenk-Dämpferlager vorn sowie einstellbare Stabilisatoren mit fünf Positionen für den 24-Millimeter-Stab vorne und drei Positionen für den 21-Millimeter-Stab hinten. Außerdem gehörten zur Serienausstattung ein Sperrdifferenzial, ein Antiblockiersystem aus dem 993 Turbo sowie eine ADB-Traktionskontrolle. Riesige 265/35ZR 18-Zöller hinten und 225/40ZR 18-Zöller vorn sind auf speziell angefertigten, dreiteiligen 18 Zoll Leichtmetallfelgen „Speedline for Porsche“ mit Magnesium-Mittelteil montiert, die vorne 9 und hinten 11 Zoll breit sind.
Darüber hinaus haben die Stuttgarter Ingenieure mit einem fanatischen Aufwand den Carrera RS so leicht wie möglich gemacht. Das Grundgewicht wurde auf schlanke 1280 Kilogramm gesenkt, denn auf so gut wie alles Unnötige musste verzichtet werden: es fehlen Radiolautsprecher, elektrisch verstellbare Sitze, elektrische Fensterheber und Spiegel, Schalldämmung, Airbags, die heizbare Heckscheibe und sogar der Dachhimmel. Doch damit nicht genug: Der Carrera RS verfügt über dünneres Fensterglas, einen vorderen Kofferraumdeckel und Türen aus Aluminium, Recaro-Sitze und leichte Türverkleidungen mit klassischen Stoffschlaufen statt Türgriffen.
Das hier angebotene Fahrzeug ist eines von nur 1104 produzierten Exemplaren des Carrera RS der 993er-Generation. Der Wagen präsentiert sich in klassischem Speedgelb, wie es sich für einen abgespeckten Rennwagen gehört, und das Interieur ist mit zweifarbig schwarz-grauen Ledersitzen mit perforierten Mittelteilen ausgestattet.
Der Porsche wurde am 25. Juli 1995 im Werk fertiggestellt und neu in der Schweiz ausgeliefert. Der Kilometerzähler zeigt zum Zeitpunkt der Katalogisierung gerade einmal 27.419 Kilometer an, und der Wagen befindet sich in einem hervorragenden Zustand. Zum Fahrzeug gehören die Bordbücher, ein Serviceheft und eine Werkzeugrolle.
