With Lamborghini it’s never a question of whether something is too much. Features such as doors that open skyward, a screaming V-12 engine or a giant wing covering the rear deck were simply not outrageous enough for the Lamborghini Diablo VT. Why not make an open top version? Given the proportions of the car it sounded kind of crazy. So, of course the fellows running things at Sant'Agata Bolognese said, “Sure we’ll do it.” The Diablo VT was already a supercar that looked like it had more in common with a rocket than it did with other automobiles. The Roadster version took all of this madness to an even higher plane.
If a V-12 was loud in a regular Lamborghini, it was positively bonkers in the roadster. Earplugs were recommended for longer commutes, but hearing the beautiful symphony of the 48-valve engine instead of… say… attending several rock concerts while standing close to the stage was the much preferred way to go deaf. This superb example of a 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster is colored with a shimmering $11,000 optional Blu Scuro paint job and finished in a rich White leather interior. Showing only 9,018 original miles and equipped with a $4,800 optional sport gear ratio, this is one of only 28 Diablo VT Roadsters believed to be sold in the United States, with only 63 produced worldwide.
The two-owner, all-wheel-drive beast is powered by a 5.7L V-12 that is factory-rated at 530 horsepower. It features a 5-speed gated manual gearbox, optional chrome-plated wheels with gold accents, optional rear wing, high-performance X-Merg exhaust, original Alpine stereo system, original window sticker, original books and manuals, tool kit, emergency parts kit, CarFax and dealer service records. This is a golden opportunity to own a rare, wind-in-your-hair, V-12-powered Lamborghini. Contrary to the printed catalog description, this vehicle is equipped with a 5-speed transmission.
