Topping the Miura and over-the-top Countach was the Lamborghini Diablo. The mid-engine V-12 Lamborghini went on sale in 1990 and was in production until it was itself topped by the Murciélago over a decade later. In the midst of all-wheel drive Diablo offerings came the limited edition and fearsome Diablo SV or Super Veloce, a model that boasted more horsepower than the base Diablo with only rear-wheel drive. This rare 1998 example of the low production Diablo SV was previously kept in a private Lamborghini collection and is offered with an odometer showing 32,768 kilometers which converts to just more than 19,000 miles.
The Lamborghini 5.7-liter V-12 engine with four valves per cylinder, electronic fuel injection and dry sump oil system was rated for 510 horsepower at 7,100 RPM and 428 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 RPM. The longitudinally mid-mounted engine is backed by a Lamborghini 5-speed manual transmission and ZF differential with limited slip sending horsepower to the rear wheels. The engine breathes through a performance dual exhaust system fitted with 2001 Diablo 6.0 edition exhaust tips. All-wheel Brembo brakes lurk behind the original special SV-edition OZ Rally 3-piece light aluminum alloy wheels with recently replaced Michelin tires.
The Diablo was conceived by an unscripted collaboration between Miura and Countach designer Marcello Gandini and the Chrysler Styling Center. The black-on-black Diablo SV is equipped with an adjustable rear wing for downforce with optional and rare SV side decals. The deep black paint is protected from velocity by a 3M clear film bra. Scissor doors open to reveal sporting luxury with adjustable leather seats and a flat bottom steering wheel over original VDO white-faced gauges. A custom installed backup camera and signature pop-up headlights provide vision under all conditions. This Lamborghini SV comes with its factory-issue tool set in matching leather carriers.
