Lamborghini set the bar for the modern supercar with the sleek mid-engined Miura, then raised it with the sharp-elbowed Lamborghini, an extraordinary machine whose appearance never failed to make a startling first impression. In fact the very name originated as a Piemontese slang expression of lust, better left untranslated, uttered by a Bertone employee upon viewing the car for the first time. After 16 years of production, a revitalized Lamborghini then under Chrysler ownership fielded the 25th Anniversary Edition Countach, with a redesign by Horatio Pagani that not only revitalized the car’s appearance but also provided improved engine and drivetrain cooling.
Power and handling were better, too, making the 25th Anniversary Countach the most refined and the best driver’s car of the lineage. This nicely menacing all-Black example has covered just 3,553 kilometers, or 2,207 miles, since new. A one-family-owned car until 2015, it has been meticulously maintained without regard for expense and presents in better-than-new condition, with exquisite Black paint and a virtually flawless leather cockpit. In 2013 the engine and transmission were removed for a complete rebuild and reseal, and the brakes and fuel system overhauled, the total investment surpassing $26,000.
Slight front-end collision damage was also seamlessly repaired to an exceptionally high standard that is in keeping with the rest of the car. Recently, 200 hours of lavish detailing was performed on this exceptional 25th Anniversary Countach, whose superlative history, exceptionally low mileage and single-family ownership recommend it as an exceedingly desirable example of the iconic supercar from Sant‘Agata.
