Unveiled by Piero Lardi Ferrari, Sergio Pininfarina and Luca di Montezemolo at an exclusive preview held in advance of the March 1995 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari’s stunning new Ferrari F50 supercar was introduced as the product of “… Fifty years of racing, fifty years of winning, fifty years of hard work.” Some commentators have described the F50 as a Ferrari F1 machine with a second seat and a sports car body. That comparison is well-founded, with the F50 based on an extremely lightweight chassis made entirely of Cytec aerospace-grade carbon fiber. For the first time in a Ferrari road car, the engine/gearbox/differential assembly acted as a load-bearing structure.

Using technology derived from Ferrari’s Formula 1 V-12 powerplants, the naturally aspirated 4.7L engine powering the F50 featured dual overhead camshafts per cylinder bank with three intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder, plus 11.3:1 compression, Bosch Motronic engine management and variable-length exhaust. Ultra-modern materials were utilized, including the high-strength nodular cast iron crankcase, Nikasil-coated cylinder liners and titanium connecting rods. Dry-sump oiling was used with three scavenge pumps and one supply pump. Maximum output reached 520 HP at 8,500 RPM, with 347 lb-ft of peak torque at 6,500 RPM.

Weighing just 436 pounds, the F50’s powerplant is capable of reaching over 10,000 RPM. A 6-speed longitudinal gearbox and limited-slip differential delivered the power, with the F50 capable of reaching 325 KPH (202 MPH) and sprinting from zero to 100 KPH (62 MPH) in merely 3.7 seconds. Stopping is delivered by cross-drilled and ventilated large-diameter brakes fitted with 4-piston Brembo calipers. Other F50 highlights included the instrument panel, featuring a tachometer and speedometer, plus fuel, oil, and water temperatures and oil pressure gauges—all controlled by a microcomputer with LCD display.

This system also included a statistics bank, which memorized the various dynamic parameters of the car and incorporated a crash record. Fully adjustable, the throttle, brake and clutch pedals were all drilled for weight reduction. The gated gearshift lever was a signature Ferrari feature, and in the interest of weight savings, the gear knob and lever were made of lightweight composite materials. In typical Ferrari fashion, just 349 cars were built over two years—one less than perceived demand. The first 10 cars were delivered in Europe, while deliveries to the United States began in July 1995.

Each owner received a document signed by Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo, attesting to the authenticity of the car, and all owners were invited back to Modena after the last F50 was produced in celebration of the model’s evolution. Carrying S/N 104121, this example is F50 No. 65 of the 349 produced from 1995 to 1997 and Car No. 28 of the 56 built for the U.S. market. The odometer reads 252 miles at the time of writing. Purchased by the Bachman’s from the collection of Professional Golfer Ian Poulter, this F50’s body, numbered 28, is appropriately finished in Rosso Corsa 300 paint. The Nero 8500 interior features Rosso fabric seat inserts.

The formidable 4.7L/513 HP V-12 engine, numbered 41584, is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission numbered 181. Certified by Ferrari Classiche with its corresponding Red Book included, this awesome F50 is further accompanied by Schedoni luggage and the F50 Flight Case for Berlinetta/Barchetta conversion. Awards and accolades include Platinum honors at the Ferrari Classiche Concours held at the 2016 Finali Mondiali at Daytona International Speedway, plus the Supercar Cup award at the 2018 Cavallino Classic. Books, manuals and tools complete this visually and viscerally stunning 1995 Ferrari F50 from the Bachman Ferrari Collection.
