Ferrari reserves the hallowed GTO designation for its most uncompromising, performance-focused creations—those that blend true racing pedigree with roadgoing capability. Prior to 2010, only two Ferrari models bore the “
Gran Turismo Omologato
” badge: the legendary 250 GTO of 1962 and the 288 GTO of 1984. Both were created to satisfy rigorous homologation standards for competition and are now among the most prized Ferraris in existence.
In April of 2010, the 599 GTO resurrected the closely guarded nameplate. Based on the 599 GTB, it was not built for homologation purposes but drew heavily from the track-only 599XX, bringing competition-honed engineering to a road-legal package. Advanced aerodynamic and cooling upgrades, such as reworked diffusers and a newly sculpted rear wing, improved downforce and high-speed stability. The chassis benefited from Ferrari’s sophisticated F1-Trac traction control system, which minimised understeer and sharpened cornering agility.
At its heart was a ferocious, 6.0-litre V-12 unleashing 661 horsepower at a soaring 8,250 rpm. A further development of the Enzo’s engine, it featured improved intake and exhaust systems and additional friction-reducing measures for higher output and increased performance. This was mated to a refined six-speed automated-manual transaxle capable of gear changes in just 60 milliseconds—an impressive 40 milliseconds quicker than the standard 599 GTB. This combination could catapult the GTO from 0 to 100 m/h in just 3.1 seconds.
Declared the most extreme sports car in the company’s lineup, the 599 GTO lapped Ferrari’s Fiorano test circuit a full second quicker than the vaunted Enzo. With just 599 produced, opportunities to acquire one of these fearsome machines remain exceedingly rare.
Presented here is chassis number 178479. Rather than the oft-seen Rosso colour, it is finished in striking Bianco Avus with a Blu Pozzi racing stripe. The rocker panels and rear diffuser in exposed carbon fibre coordinate with the 10-spoke black wheels, while yellow brake callipers provide impactful contrast. Inside, a leather interior features white contrast stitching, exposed carbon fibre elements, and Alcantara trim on select surfaces. An aftermarket Pioneer stereo head unit with CD player has been installed.
As one of only 599 examples produced and showing just 8,946 kilometres at cataloguing time, this 599 GTO presents an exceedingly rare opportunity for the Ferrari collector or track day enthusiast to own one of the most uncompromising and highly focused 12-cylinder grand tourers of the modern era.
