قُدّمت سيارة Aston Martin DBS بديلًا عن DB6 التي حققت نجاحًا كبيرًا، وصُممت لتستوعب محرك V-8 من تصميم Tadek Marek، وهو المحرك الذي زوّد سيارة الشركة المشاركة في سباق لومان عام 1967 بالطاقة. تأخر طرح محرك V-8 ذي عمودي كامات علويين بسعة 5.3 لتر وقوة 375 حصانًا حتى 27 سبتمبر 1969، حين أعلنت AML جاهزيته للإنتاج. وكانت السيارة الجديدة، المعروفة باسم DBSV8، أكبر من سابقتها؛ وهي سيارة سياحية فاخرة بأربعة مقاعد، قادرة على بلوغ سرعة 160 ميلًا في الساعة، ما جعلها أسرع سيارة إنتاج بأربعة مقاعد في العالم آنذاك.
