Offered with an odometer reading of 46,719 miles, this exceptionally rare 1978 Porsche 930 Turbo Ruf BTR remains unrestored and in excellent overall condition. The name Ruf has long been associated with expertly modified and tuned Porsches since 1974, when Alois Ruf took over the company founded by his father and found international fame with cars such as the legendary Yellowbird, which amazed its Road & Track testers by exceeding 200 MPH in its famous 1987 competition for the title of World’s Fastest Car.
Available only on the 930 Turbo and the Carrera 3.2 versions of the Porsche 911, the Ruf BTR conversion (the initials standing for Gruppe B Turbo Ruf) incorporated an increase in the 930 Turbo’s flat 6-cylinder engine capacity to 3.4L and modifications to the turbocharger, including a driver-operated boost control in the cockpit, to produce 374 HP at 6,000 RPM and 354 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 RPM. A Ruf-manufactured 5-speed manual transmission was also part of the conversion.
Produced on December 19, 1977, this Ruf BTR features a paint-to-sample red metallic exterior finish over a black leather interior fitted with well-bolstered Recaro-style sport seats, a lightweight Ruf steering wheel with suede-covered padded rim, VDO gauges and an AM/FM/CD stereo system; the original Blaupunkt radio is also included with the car. Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires on 16-inch Porsche Fuchs painted wheels complete this very rare and exceptional Ruf BTR, which comes complete with a Porsche Certificate of Origin, the owner’s manual and books, two sets of keys and a car cover.
