Among the wide variety of nomenclature Ferrari has used for its road-going models, arguably none are more prestigious than the “Gran Turismo Omologato” nameplate. Prior to 2010, only two road cars had the privilege of wearing the badge: the 250 GTO of 1962 and 288 GTO of 1984. Both models were produced to meet stringent homologation regulations at the time of their respective production. The nameplate was exclusively reserved for the marque’s most sublime, performance-oriented models, which have become some of Ferrari’s most sought-after creations. In April of 2010, the 599 GTO resurrected the closely guarded nameplate.

Even though the 599 GTO was not truly a homologation model, it was developed directly from the 599XX prototype for use on the road. As such, the car benefitted from cutting-edge F1 engineering and technology. Numerous aerodynamic and cooling enhancements were made to increase downforce, including revised front and rear diffusers and a redesigned rear spoiler. Chassis characteristics such as the F1-Trac traction control were used to reduce understeer and maximize responsiveness.

At its heart, Ferrari placed a raw, naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-12 engine, producing an astonishing 670 horsepower at 8,250 rpm. This was coupled with a significantly updated six-speed automated manual transaxle that executed shifts in just 60 milliseconds–40 milliseconds less than the 599 GTB. The pairing launched the GTO from 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, making it Ferrari’s fastest road car at the time.

Designated as its most extreme sports car, Ferrari even admitted that it could lap the company’s Fiorano test track a full second faster than the Enzo supercar. With just 125 examples allocated for the United States, the chance of acquiring is exceptionally uncommon.

This 599 GTO was delivered new to Ferrari of Beverly Hills in California and remained in Southern California, accumulating just 263 miles by the time of cataloguing. In addition to its low mileage, special care was taken to ensure the GTO was kept as delivered, with wrapping still in place on the seats and steering wheel.

Its “Extra-Campionario” (special order) specification encompasses an extensive options list, totaling over $140,000. On the exterior, the Bianco paint is accented by a bespoke racing livery in Rosso and carbon fiber under-door cover. Inside, Rosso leather hides with contrasting Bianco stitching can be found throughout, including the headliner and rear parcel shelf. In keeping with the color scheme, the instrument cluster features Bianco gauges. Additional notable options include a Handly-branded fire extinguisher, carbon-fiber trim on the door sills and engine cover, as well as a Bose audio system.

The undeniably extraordinary sound of the naturally aspirated Tipo F140 V-12 engine coupled with its remarkably raw driving characteristics have made the 599 GTO a modern-day collectible. This low-mileage example replete with numerous special-order options presents superbly and is sure to wow the most discerning of collectors.
