. Prior to 2010, only two cars had the prestige of wearing that badge: the 250 GTO and the 288 GTO. Both of these models were produced to meet stringent competition homologation regulations at the time of their respective production, and both were the most sublime, performance-oriented models of their era; they have become some of Ferrari’s, and in fact the automotive world’s, most sought-after creations.

The closely guarded nameplate was resurrected in April of 2010 on the 599 GTO, which was developed as a roadgoing car directly from the 599XX competition prototype. It benefitted from the latest, cutting-edge F1 engineering and technology, with numerous aerodynamic and cooling enhancements, including revised front and rear diffusers and a redesigned rear spoiler to increase downforce. Advanced chassis characteristics such as the F1-Trac traction control were used to reduce understeer and maximize responsiveness. At the heart of the car was a raw, naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-12 engine, producing an astonishing 670 horsepower at 8,250 rpm.

This was coupled with a significantly updated six-speed automated manual transaxle that would execute shifts in just 60 milliseconds, 40 milliseconds less than the 599 GTB—a pairing that launched the GTO from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. It was at the time Ferrari’s fastest road car, and remains one of the fastest that the company has ever built. Ferrari even admitted that it could lap the company’s Fiorano test track a full second faster than an Enzo!

Just 125 examples of the 599 GTO were allocated to the United States, and so the opportunity to acquire one has always been exceedingly uncommon.

The example offered here is finished in the exceptionally alluring hue of Argento Nürburgring, with black and red Daytona-style Recaro seats, optional full leather upholstery, and red-painted brake calipers, altogether forming a striking combination of colors and form.
