Chrysler built a solid reputation for power and reliability in international competition before the close of the Roaring Twenties, but by 1931 their designs were falling out of fashion and the company realized change was necessary. That year saw the introduction of what would become one of the greatest classics in Chrysler’s history, the 1931 to ‘33 Custom Imperial. The LeBaron-bodied Imperial was alone in the elegance of its low and rakish design, which in the roadster and phaeton models featured a belt line that sloped gently downward in the rear, which with the top down exposed the upper portion of the seatbacks in a way that defied period convention.

Beneath the Imperial’s long hood was Chrysler’s first – and in fact largest – straight-8 flathead engine in two versions, dubbed the “Silver Dome” and “Red Head.” The more powerful Red Head Straight Eight produced 135 HP at 3,200 RPM, enough to haul the Imperial up to almost 90 MPH, and would quietly cruise at 75 MPH. This 1933 Chrysler Imperial convertible is one of a mere five known to exist. Powered by the Red Head Straight Eight engine, this pristine classic is distinguished by its split-V windshield, rumble seat, driving lights and dual side mount spares.

Wrapped in glowing two-tone Burgundy paint with Tan interior and top, this precious milestone automobile is offered with period ownership photos and documents from before its restoration.
