In the early 1960s, Carroll Shelby rocked the automotive world when he and his band of Southern California racers wedged a 260 CI V-8 engine into an AC Ace chassis. The result was the Shelby Cobra, one of the most potent and iconic sports cars in automotive history. While the Cobra would quickly evolve in the ensuing years with ever larger-displacement engines, arguably its greatest iteration was the famed 427 Cobra released in 1965. Despite its ferocious power and race-winning successes, only 343 coil-spring 427 Cobras were produced in total.
With so few original examples of such a wildly potent and popular sports car available, it didn’t take long for a number of cottage manufacturers to begin producing exacting replicas of Shelby’s most famous Hot Rod. The example on offer is one such replica of a 1965 Cobra produced by Factory Five Racing of Wareham, Massachusetts. Finished in Gunmetal Gray with a black leather bucket-seat interior, this Mark IV build was completed in 2020 with only 1,000 test miles put on the odometer since, and it has a replica-branded title as a 2020 Assembled Vehicle.
