For the success achieved across Europe and in Australia, the E30-generation M3 is rightly regarded as one of the great Group A touring cars. To ensure it remained at the front of the grid, BMW Motorsport continued to evolve the recipe with road-going homologation specials. The rarest, most powerful, and most coveted of all is the Sport Evolution. Just 600 were produced, featuring an inline-four engine enlarged by 200 cc to displace 2.5 litres.
Of these 238 horsepower heroes, the car offered here was built in February 1990 and delivered new on 25 May. Finished in Brillantrot (one of only two available colour choices), this M3 was trimmed with a black leather interior featuring the BMW Motorsport tricolour accents. It was also notably specified with air conditioning.
After its first ownership in Italy, from April 1998 the M3 Sport Evolution was registered in the United Kingdom. After spells with three keeper, it was acquired by the vendor in 2013. Invoices on file reflect that between 2014 and 2016, the car was entrusted to renowned specialist Munich Legends for maintenance. Since purchased by the vendor, the BMW has resided in Switzerland and was serviced by official marque dealer Binelli Baar in 2020. The car’s odometer displayed 53,118 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
Grâce aux succès qu'elle a remportés en Europe et en Australie, la M3 de génération E30 est à juste titre considérée comme une des meilleures voitures du Groupe A. Pour s'assurer qu'elle reste en tête des classements, BMW Motorsport a continué à faire évoluer la recette avec des spéciales d'homologation immatriculées pour la route. La plus rare, la plus puissante et plus recherchée de toutes est la Sport Evolution. Seulement 600 exemplaires en ont vu le jour, équipés d'un 4-cylindres en ligne dont la cylindrée a gagné 200 cm3 pour passer à 2,5 litres et développer 238 ch.
Parmi ces voitures de légende, celle qui est proposée ici a été fabriquée en février 1990 et a été livrée neuve le 25 mai. De couleur Brillantrot (une des deux seules teintes du catalogue), cette M3 était dotée d'une sellerie en cuir noir réhaussée des accents tricolores de BMW Motorsport. Elle était également équipée d'un système d'air conditionné.
En 1998, cette M3 Sport Evolution a été immatriculée au Royaume-Uni et, après trois propriétaires, a été achetée en 2013 par le vendeur actuel. Les factures qui sont dans le dossier reflètent que, de 2014 à 2016, elle a été confiée pour son entretien au spécialiste réputé Munich Legends. Depuis son achat par le vendeur, cette BMW est basée en Suisse et a fait l'objet en 2020 d'une révision par le représentant officiel de la marque Binelli Baar. Le compteur de la voiture affichait 53 118 km au moment de rédiger le catalogue.
