Today, the Seventh Series cars of 1930 continue to rank among the most collectible and desirable Packard models of the Classic Era. Famed designer Raymond Dietrich directly influenced their styling, with major cues including setback cowls, elongated hoods and beautifully flowing fender lines. Bodies were of the same size across all Packard series that year, even though available wheelbase lengths ranged from 134.5 inches of the Model 733 to the 145.5 inches of the 745 Deluxe Eight, with the difference taken up by hoods of various lengths.
Featuring adventurous Dual Cowl Phaeton coachwork designed by the renowned Raymond Dietrich, this Seventh-Series 1930 Packard Deluxe Eight is a multiple concours winner, including a Class award at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2021 and the FIVA award for Best Preservation Vehicle at the 2022 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Delivered new in May 1930 to the Packard Montclair Company, Inc. of Montclair, New Jersey, it carries known ownership history. Bearing Serial no. 185748, Chassis no. 185657 and Engine no. 185910, power is provided by a 385 CI L-head inline 8-cylinder engine featuring a Detroit Lubricator carburetor and paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.
Finished in dark green, accented by a white convertible top, original leather interior and original wood and chrome interior accents, this wonderfully presented CCCA Full Classic includes the original gauges, carpets and original side curtains with original Eisenglass windows. Other wonderful accents include green gem pieces on the headlamps plus Pilot Ray driving lamps that move side-to-side with steering inputs, an original Adonis mascot and an original suitcase labeled “Summer Dresses – Mrs. Payne.” Riding on a leaf-spring suspension with 4-wheel mechanical drum brakes and wire wheels, this vintage Packard benefits from mechanical service performed by Scott Grundfor Company in 2018.
