In 1970 Maserati updated the Ghibli with a more powerful 4.9-litre engine, resulting in the Ghibli SS. The new variant was appointed with numerous standard comfort amenities and produced in a quantity of approximately 425 examples, effectively becoming the apogee of the celebrated model.
According to the data sourced from Maserati Classiche, chassis no. 1570 was ordered in late October 1969 and completed assembly the following March. Finished in Blue Pervinca paint and trimmed with a white interior of Connolly leather, the Ghibli was distributed to the dealer Sport Auto in Rome, where it was purchased by Micca Ferrero.
Although little is currently known of the Maserati’s interim history, by 2014 the car was owned by Massimo and Gianluca Tiepolo, the proprietors of a sports car specialty garage in Italy called Stile Italiano di Sabbion, as clarified by an Auto Club d’Italia registration. The Ghibli was subsequently treated to a full restoration to the original colour configuration in the UK and still retains its original engine. Currently displaying 47,654 kilometres, this Ghibli SS would make a fabulous addition to any collection, ideal for enthusiasts of 1960s Italian grand tourers.
En 1970, Maserati monta sur sa Ghibli un 4,9 litres plus puissant, ce qui donna naissance à la Ghibli SS. Cette nouvelle version reçut de nombreux équipements de confort ; elle fut produite à environ 425 exemplaires et représenta l'apogée de cet illustre modèle.
Selon les données fournies par Maserati Classiche, le châssis n° 1570 fut commandé fin octobre 1969 et produit au mois de mars suivant. De couleur bleu Pervinca et garnie de cuir Connolly blanc, cette Ghibli fut livrée au concessionnaire Sport Auto de Rome, qui la vendit à Micca Ferrero.
On connaît peu l'historique de cette Maserati, mais on sait, d'après une immatriculation à l'Automobile Club d’Italia, qu'en 2014 elle était entre les mains de Massimo et Gianluca Tiepolo, les propriétaires de Stile Italiano di Sabbion, un garage italien spécialisé dans les voitures de sport. Elle fut ensuite totalement restaurée au Royaume-Uni, dans son harmonie de teintes initiale, mais elle possède toujours son moteur d'origine. Cette Ghibli SS, qui affiche 47 654 km, est idéale pour les amateurs de GT italiennes des années 1960 et constituerait un merveilleux apport à toute collection.
