"Anyone wondering why Aston Martin bother to make their own vee-8 when so many big American ones are so cheaply available need take only one look at the performance data... for the best explanation in the world. Whatever the undisclosed output of the Aston V8, it is enough to rocket this heavy car to 60mph from rest in exactly six seconds and to 100mph in only 14.7 seconds. Much more than this, we were able to reach 138 mph from rest in a mile and on the Continent record a mean maximum speed of 161.5 mph." - Autocar, 8th July 1971.
Chassis number '10113' was prepared by the factory as a fuel-injected, automatic transmission model for display on the Aston Martin stand at the 1971 San Francisco and New York Auto Shows. Items of non-standard equipment listed on the accompanying guarantee form copy include exhaust emission control; air conditioning; Fiamm horns; Lear Jet AM/FM radio; two rear lap belts; two headrests; Waso steering lock; and a driver's door mirror. The car is recorded as purchased from AML Inc as a used demo in December 1972, the purchaser being Melvin Ritter of Tucson, Arizona. Before then, the DBS had been used by AML Inc's President Rex Woodgate as his personal demonstrator.
The AMOC Register lists several concours awards achieved by '10113' with Mr Ritter, including Malibu, Pennsylvania and Lime Rock, and also with Robert Djejerian of New York, its owner from 1990, whose most recent entry is the Lime Rock Sprint of 1994 (3rd in class). The current owner purchased the Aston Martin on 27th April 2011 from Autosport Designs, whose detailed advertisement is on file. This advertisement states that the car had been 'continually maintained to the highest standards', and listed the many upgrades from later models that had been incorporated.
These included rebuilding the engine to European specification in 1978; a complete Vantage stainless steel exhaust; factory 'Hot Start Modification'; transmission oil cooler; up-rating the front suspension to Vantage specification; ventilated front brake rotors; AM V8 radiator; AM V8 power steering rack and pump; Cibié QI European headlights; and an Alpine stereo system. Accompanying documentation includes the 2011 bill of sale and other paperwork; an old New York State Registration Document; a DBS V8 Instruction Book; AMOC Owner's Club Register Photocopies; Photographs; an original Service Voucher book stamped from 1971 to 1974; and the aforementioned advertisement copy.
This is a well-documented Aston-Martin DBS V8 that appears to be very solid. The car requires a full respray and a full mechanical inspection before returning to the roads. Please note import taxes will be liable if the car is to remain in the EU.
