After a brief pause, Porsche reintroduced the 911 Turbo in 1991, with the wide-body coachwork adapted to the new 964's softer profile, penned by the talented Benjamin Dimson. The drivetrain was essentially that of the standard rear-wheel-drive Carrera 2, with a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged and twin-intercooled flat-six (M64/60) developing a healthy 408 hp at 5,750 rpm. There was ABS, assisted braking, and power steering.
Porsche only built 1,427 examples in the 1993-1994 model years, and like all its previous iterations, the 911 Turbo was thrilling to drive, offering performance that few, if any, of its contemporaries could provide. Car & Driver magazine road tested the new model in May 1993, declaring, "The real news is that the new, more powerful car is easier and more predictable to drive aggressively than any recent 911 Turbo. One no longer needs to have graduated from the Hans Stuck opposite-lock academy to explore the full potential of this car's awesome power."
C&D lauded the increase of low-end torque; the new Turbo delivered 332 of its maximum 384 foot-pounds as low as 2,400 rpm. The 964-generation Turbo could sprint to 60 in four seconds flat, pass the century mark in 10.2, and cover a standing quarter mile in 12.4 and 114 mph. The Turbo could still deliver 21 mpg on the highway with a judicious driver at the wheel.
According to its Certificate of Authenticity, this beautiful example left the factory on 25 October 1993, finished in eye-catching Speed Yellow with a black leather interior. The option list shows the car was ordered with an electric sunroof, a six-disc CD changer, seats in supple leather, instrument rings trimmed in yellow leather to match the paint, contrasting yellow stitching on the handbrake boot, shift knob, and door handles. The front seat belts also matched the paint scheme. The front trunk and interior are carpeted in black velour, complimented by black floor mats with red embroidery. There is air conditioning, of course, and a stereo system.
Gleaming modular light-alloy "Speedline for Porsche" wheels were wrapped Yokohama radials with painted centers, and polished rims hide "Big Red" disc brakes at all four corners.
This exciting Turbo has been enjoyed in recent years by a prominent Porsche collector and has been carefully maintained. Recently serviced to ensure proper running and driving condition, it is supplied with its Certificate of Authenticity, manuals, an unused tool roll, and portable tire inflator. For the discerning Porsche collector seeking a very attractive 964 Turbo with low mileage, this would be the perfect choice.
