A full 60 years after Argentinean racing great José Froilán González scored Ferrari’s first win in a Formula 1 World Championship race at the 1951 British Grand Prix at Britain’s famed Silverstone circuit, Ferrari and the FIA honored “The Pampas Bull” with a prerace celebration at the same venue during the 2011 British Grand Prix. As part of the festivities, contemporary Ferrari F1 driver and two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso piloted González’s Silverstone-winning 375 F1 for four laps before going on to win the race in his Ferrari 150 Italia later that same day.
These special moments and the milestones they represent were embodied in this 2011 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Alonso Final Edition, one of approximately 40 produced to commemorate 60 years of Ferrari wins in Formula 1. The spiritual successor to the legendary 365 GTB/4 Daytona, the 599 GTB redefined that model’s sharply defined shape in aggressively beautiful fashion with finely sculpted aerodynamics and built on its performance with the naturally aspirated, fuel-injected F140 6.0L/611 HP V-12 engine and lightning-quick, paddle-shifted F1 Superfast 6-speed transmission.
The 599 GTB Fiorano Alonso Final Edition also incorporated the HGTE (Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione) suspension system featuring stiffer springs and a rear anti-roll bar, recalibrated Delphi MagneRide magnetorheological shock absorbers, recalibrated shift speeds, a wider array of suspension settings and retuned exhaust. Inspired by the Formula 1 150 Italia livery, this Alonso Final Edition combines Rosso Scuderia paint with white and tricolor accents, Scuderia fender shields, specially designed 20-inch diameter, diamond-finished forged alloy wheels over carbon ceramic brakes with black-painted calipers and Scuderia Ferrari callouts.
The unique “Super Fabric” interior treatment features carbon fiber racing seats, a headliner in black Alcantara, red accent stitching, carbon fiber accents and Prancing Horse headrest embroidery. Accompanied by a window sticker, service records and an owner’s manual, this 2011 Alonso Final Edition includes a unique commemorative dash plaque announcing the car’s special 60th Anniversary status with a facsimile of Alonso’s personal autograph.
