Porsche’s formula for the 911 GT3 RS is a simple one: take the hairiest production 911 ever built, and then make it better. The original GT3 debuted in 1999 as the inheritor of the legendary RS, a car purposed for racing but perfectly suited to the enthusiast wiling to drive it on the street. Porsche built on the GT3 with the GT3 RS, a homologation special in the classic mould, armed with the GT3’s 962/911 GT1-based 3.6L/415 HP flat-6, now fitted with a single-mass flywheel for noticeably increased throttle response. Key to the RS’ identity is the huge carbon-fiber rear wing and wider rear bodywork to accommodate increased rear track and wider rolling stock.
At the RS’s top speed of 192 MPH a front skirt beneath the nose added 33 pounds of downforce to the 88 generated by the rear wing, adding considerable stability where it counts. There is no mistaking this 2008 Porsche GT3 RS for any other 911. Striking Orange body side graphics-more than a tad reminiscent of the original RS-overlay the deep Black paint that repeats on the 19-inch light alloy wheels.
In addition to its stunning performance, the GT3 RS has to be one of the most well-appointed homologation cars ever made, with every tactile surface, including the steering wheel rim, shifter, seat upholstery and brake handle, is covered in grip-enhancing Alcantara fabric, which features the same fine Orange stitching as the Black leather surfaces; perfect for spirited driving, and good-looking, too. Porsche’s optional Bi-Xenon headlights, Sport Chrono package and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes complement the long list of standard features that make this GT3 RS one of the most exclusive and potent road Porsches ever.
Best yet, this example has been pampered and driven just 3,537 miles since new.
