This 2008 Porsche GT3 RS is one of just 413 imported into the United States and has only 11,630 original miles. The Porsche GT3 RS was produced as a street-legal car to comply with the homologation rules of the various race-sanctioning bodies such as the SCCA, IMSA and Grand Am, of which it actively campaigned in the GT class. The Porsche GT3 RS is more than just a warmed-up standard 911. It occupies a focused niche in the 911 line up and uses a number of specialized parts. The engine block is referred to as the Mezger engine, named after its designer Hans Mezger.
This is a motorsports-derived engine and is distinctly different than those used in the other standard first-generation 997 models. This 3.6L horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine produces 415 HP, an amazing 1.88 horsepower-per-cubic-inch in naturally aspirated form. Under the guidance of Andreas Preuninger—Porsche’s ace Chief Development Engineer—the entire set up on the GT3 has been reconfigured with larger brakes, sculpted body pieces to add aerodynamic downforce, recalibrated suspension and lowered ride height.
The GT3 RS is further endowed over its GT3 brethren with a weight reduction of 44 pounds—by using a carbon-fiber rear wing and plastic engine cover—and widened rear fenders to allow for wider wheels and tires. The net result is a factory rated top speed of 193 MPH and 0-60 acceleration time of just 4 seconds. This car has been special ordered with multiple options, including a special-order orange exterior, Alcantara suede interior with deviated orange stitching, a sport chrono package, navigation, carbon-fiber trim and a Porsche roll cage, painted to sample.
