Needless to say, the SLR McLaren delivers performance figures that are still among the best in its class. Taking just 3.8 seconds to sprint from 0-100km/h (62mph), it passes the 200km/h (125mph) mark after 10.6 seconds and from a standing start takes just 28.8 seconds to reach 300km/h (186mph). The two-seater has a top speed of 334km/h (207mph). The five-speed automatic transmission was specially optimised for very high torque while affording the choice of different shift characteristics using the Speedshift system.
In 2006 Mercedes-Benz introduced the '722 Edition, the '722' referring to the victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia of Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson, whose Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR had the starting number '722' (indicating a start time of 7:22 a.m.). The 722 Editions are highly sought after, with only 150 produced, and numerous upgrades over the standard car including a power boost to 641hp, revised dampers and aerodynamic upgrades.
The rare and ultra-exclusive "Crown Edition" was a run of 10 cars, picked from the production line and upgraded with full 722-specification parts, including the uprated and modified engine, carbon fibre aerodynamic parts, stiffer dampers and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels. The Crown Edition was truly a 722 in all but name. Finished in red with matching Silver Arrow leather interior, the one-owner SLR McLaren offered here is one of the rare and exclusive 'Crown Edition' variants (the ninth of 10 produced). Since acquisition the car has been kept on static display as part of the vendor's extensive private collection.
Recently, recommissioning and service work has been undertaken by Stratton Motor Company, and it comes to sale running and driving, ready for a new owner to realise its Grand Touring potential. It is offered with a mere 60km recorded on the odometer, with a copy of the 2008 purchase invoice and the recommissioning invoices from Stratton Motor Company.
