The Black Series Coupe’s hand-built, twin-turbocharged 4.0L V-8 engine and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are familiar to Mercedes-Benz/AMG devotees, but the Black Series is unique in its use of a flat-plane crankshaft, which contributes to its awe-inspiring output of 720 HP at 6,900 RPM and 590 lb-ft of torque—the most ever in a Mercedes-Benz production V-8.
The Black Series Coupe achieves a top speed of 202 MPH while offering precisely tailored handling from its highly adjustable AMG coilover suspension, which is complemented with adaptive damping and traction control, AMG carbon ceramic ABS brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear 10-spoke black alloy wheels. Extensive use of carbon fiber has trimmed almost 80 pounds of weight compared to the preceding GT-R, while aero enhancements in the form of an adjustable front splitter and active rear wing generate 882 pounds of downforce at 155 MPH, ensuring the level of high-speed stability required for maximum on-track thrills.
The Black Series Coupe’s aggressive styling recalls the all-conquering Silver Arrow endurance racers of the 1950s, a heritage lacking in many contemporary supercars. Classically finished in Cirrus Silver Metallic paint with carbon fiber trim, this example is fitted with a black Nappa leather/DINAMICA interior with silver stitching and seat belts, AMG Performance bucket seats and steering wheel, and a center console with COMAND navigation and dual-zone climate control.
