Lamborghini’s introduction of the Countach at the 1971 Geneva Auto Salon had a devastating impact on the automotive world. The designers at Italy’s Bertone coachworks sculpted the brash and powerful Countach’s curves and edges into a shape that foretold the look of George Lucas’ Star Wars, but by the time that mythical space adventure hit the silver screen, America and the supercar business were experiencing the so-called malaise of the late 1970s. Eventually Chrysler stepped in to help, by 1989 the company was thriving again, celebrating its revival with a special 25th Anniversary Edition Countach that has become a great investment for the dedicated Lamborghini collector and enthusiast.
Lamborghini used the occasion to revamp the Countach’s exterior, integrating more effective intake and cooling scoops and new lower body work for a new look that remains surprisingly refined to the eye. The final and most developed of the Countach line, the 25th Anniversary Edition was also the fastest, hitting 60 MPH in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 183 MPH on the strength of its 5.2L/455 HP V-12 and 5-speed transaxle.
