Jaguar introduced a breathtaking new generation of sports cars with the 1948 XK120, which would dominate sports racing in the early 1950s and provide the company with valuable income that was vital to the post-war recovery. The design matured in 1957 with the final predecessor to the E-Type, the XK150. First offered in both Fixed Head Coupe and Drop Head Coupe styles, the new XK150 featured higher front fender lines, a wider front grille and hood, one-piece wraparound windshield and increased shoulder room inside. The 3.4L DOHC inline six cylinder and 4-speed manual transmission remained, but the Jaguar’s speed was now matched with 4-wheel Dunlop disc brakes.
This marvelous late-production example is a multiple First Place Award winner in Jaguar Club North America Concours competition, with scores ranging from 99.93 to 99.96 out of 100 points. It has been cared for by the same owner since 1980. During that time he has performed two restorations on the car – most recently in 2013 – and restored numerous other Jaguars to National Concours-winning condition. Practically everything is new on the car, including its gorgeous Imperial Maroon paint, chromed wire wheels and wide Whitewall tires, front grille and tail light plinths.
The bumpers, overriders and headlight rings have been rechromed, and the door handles replated and fitted with new rubber gaskets. The interior features new Black leather upholstery on the seats and door panels, new working lighting and modern radio, and a new tachometer and clock. The car’s mechanicals were given the same thorough treatment. The suspension was thoroughly cleaned and repainted and installed with new bushings front and rear. The brake system incorporates rebuilt calipers and a new booster and master cylinder. The 3.4L engine and 4-speed transmission were overhauled, the engine with a rebuilt head and carburetor and the transmission with a rebuilt clutch and slave cylinder.
Both the heater and radiator were recored, and finally the engine brightwork was polished to a gleaming finish.
