Née voiture de tourisme pour concurrencer la Rolls-Royce New Phantom, la Speed Six s'est révélée incroyable auto de compétition : en 1929, la Speed Six de Barnato/Birkin remporte notamment les 24 Heures du Mans┤ devant un trio de Bentley 4 ½ Litre, et Barnato/Kidston réitérèrent cet exploit l'année suivante┤~

• Basée dans un petit village au c▄ur de la campagne du Devon, dans le sud-ouest de l'Angleterre, Petersen Engineering s'est forgé une réputation tant au niveau national qu'international, en restaurant, reconstruisant et recréant des Bentley.~

• La voiture qui illustre ces pages fut construite il y a une trentaine d'années en utilisant des pièces justement issues des productions Petersen. Elle utilise un châssis de Bentley R-Type modifié et un moteur de S1 de 4,9 l de cylindrée. Avec sa caisse d'inspiration Le Mans très légère, et ses trains roulants « modernes », elle offre un agrément de conduite incroyable pour une auto ayant le look de l'iconique Bentley des années 1920┤~

• Son actuel propriétaire, qui la possède depuis plus de 20 ans, a participé à un très grand nombre de rallyes à son volant, n'hésitant pas à partir pour plusieurs milliers de kilomètres, « par la route ». Kuala-Lumpur - Hanoï, Liège - Rome, Tour de la Baltique et Tour de la Sicile : la voiture n'a jamais rencontré le moindre souci, emmenant toujours son équipage à bon port, sous la supervision du très renommé spécialiste Bentley hollandais Belrose. Une auto prête à prendre le départ des plus endurants et difficiles rallyes du genre, dont le Pékin-Paris┤~
