This imposing Packard is a Model 958 Super Eight Coupe, the 14th Series Packard. The last year for the massive 384 CI straight-8 engine and Bijur Lubrication system, the engine number is 757283 and it’s backed by a synchromesh 3-speed transmission. Presented in a unique color combination of black with blue accent striping and matching blue-painted wire wheels with chrome center caps, the chrome elements stand out exceedingly well. The wide whitewall tires work with the chrome to lighten the look a bit, but the Packard still commands a remarkably formidable presence. Inside, passengers will enjoy medium-dark gray cloth upholstery engaged with glossy wood trim and careful brightwork.
Equipped with a rear-mounted spare tire, front and rear bumper guards, golf-club doors and the classic swan hood ornament, it’s a well-adorned example of one of Packard’s best. In a sweet nod to the authenticity of this car, the cowl tag shows the car was delivered new to Mountain Motors Co. in Denver, Colorado.
