This car was restored in 1980 for Max Whitcomb, whose father was the Seattle Packard Co dealer in 1937. The car was normally used in West Vancouver, BC to chauffer friends and guests to dinner parties, but macular degeneration made it impossible for Max to retain his driver’s license, and he put very few miles on the car. He and would later sell it to the current owners from Sequim, WA, who owns multiple Packards. Jim Krohn of Krohn Machine Company rebuilt the engine. He personally ground the crankshaft. Krohn has been grinding cranks for over 50 years. New Babbit main bearings were installed. The connecting rods were modified to accept modern “460” Ford insert type bearings.
Egge Machine supplied pistons, rings, valves and valve springs. The camshaft was also a regrind. New lifters, timing chain and sprockets were installed. A modern double seal was installed in the water pump, so there is no packing to continually adjust. Ernie Crutcher reconditioned the transmission and a Gear Vendors overdrive was recently installed
