The Imperial was introduced by Chrysler in 1926. During the majority of its production run, the Imperial was Chrysler’s top-of-the-line offering. In 1951, Chrysler was on its sixth generation of the Imperial, the car was based on Chrysler’s lower priced New Yorker. It was offered in four body styles, with the rarest being the two-door convertible, a model which was later discontinued for 1952.

For 1951, Chrysler engineers and designers succeeded in creating a smart, stylish and beautiful car. In doing so, they did not sacrifice the accessibility, roominess and comfort that Chrysler vehicles of this period were so well known for. The Imperial name as a stand alone brand would commence in the 1954 model year, and the lineup would begin to find their own personalities and identities during 1955 and 1956.

This 1951 Chrysler Imperial Convertible has benefitted from a frame-off restoration, completed in the 1990s. The car is presented in gray with a black convertible top, it is riding on whitewall tires with chromed wire wheels (including spare). The vehicle is powered by a FirePower 331-cid, 180-hp V-8 engine paired to a two-speed automatic transmission. Power options on the car include convertible top, windows, steering and brakes. The interior of the vehicle is completed in a dark blue and features a radio and a top boot cover for those sunny days when the convertible top is down. This 1951 Imperial Convertible is a rare breed, with only 650 examples produced in 1951. This AACA award winning example would make a great addition to any collection.
