This 1979 Porsche 924 SCCA Race Car, owned by Tom Brennan, is eligible for vintage racing competition in both SVRA and HSR. Based on a semi-tube frame chassis design, it’s powered by a dry-sump 1986cc inline-4 racing engine, which is backed by a 5-speed manual transmission, and it features a dry-sump lubrication system, side-draft weber carburetors, an approved racing seat, racing safety belts, a MOMO steering wheel, tachometer, a rear spoiler and a right-hand-exit competition exhaust system. The suspension features modified front spindles with integrated race shock absorbers and rear Koni adjustable race shock absorbers.
Braking is provided by 4-wheel Wilwood Superlite 2 4-piston calipers, while the wheel and tire combination consists of Michelin racing tires mounted on Fuchs light-weight racing wheels. This Porsche 924 has a documented race history and comes with HSR logbooks and SVRA logbooks. If the next owner wants to step up to a higher displacement class, the engine bay can easily accommodate a 2.5L unit. Presented with an Alpine White exterior with No. 2 livery, there is a generous amount of remaining body panel space for sponsor logos, contingency stickers and artistic expression of choice.
The 924 was always admired for its cornering balance with an optimal weight distribution of 50% front and 50% rear. Porsche achieved this with an innovative design utilizing a rear-mounted transaxle mated to a front-mounted engine via a centrally mounted torque tube. This architecture was shared with its big brother Porsche 928, and both cars were acknowledged by the automotive press for their superlative cornering capability and sublime road feel. One can only imagined the heightened sense of that capability in this competition Porsche 924 SCCA racer.
