Renowned for its commitment to racing dominance through technical innovation, Porsche has always infused its road models with racing technology. The 918 Spyder is one of the finest examples of this ethos, first shown as a concept car at Geneva in March 2010, followed by its debut in RSR racing form at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Production of the 918 Spyder spanned the 2013 and 2015 model years, with 918 built. Bristling with technical breakthroughs, the mid-engine 918 Spyder carries the purposeful looks of a full-blown Le Mans endurance racer, with design overseen by Michael Mauer.
Power is delivered by a naturally aspirated 4.6L DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine with direct fuel injection that generates 608 HP. A technical masterpiece, it features a flat-plane crankshaft and the same basic architecture as the unit powering Porsche’s RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype. Front and rear electric motors bring peak output to 887 HP. A lithium-ion battery offers convenient plug-in charges. Capable of topping 210 MPH flat out, the 918 Spyder can also hit 93 MPH in electric-only mode. Five distinct driving modes allow driving ease yet progressively sharpen response all the way up to Hybrid and Race modes for track use, including a Hot Lap setting.
In the best Porsche tradition, the 918 Spyder clocked the first sub-7-minute lap time on Germany’s Nürburgring, recalling the 1969-1971 dominance of the 917. In particular, the modern 918 Spyder evokes the brilliantly engineered 917K that took overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970, co-driven by Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood for Porsche Salzburg.

Usability is enhanced by the front axle lift system. Removable roof panels deliver an unforgettable open-air experience, with visuals heightened by the visible carbon fiber on the mirror covers and rear spoiler. Featuring the carbon interior package, the Spyder’s passenger compartment includes lightweight carbon fiber sport bucket seats. Lightweight magnesium center-lock wheels, finished in gloss black, provide the final touch.
