Three years after unveiling the brand new Diablo, in 1993 Lamborghini introduced the Diablo VT into its lineup, the VT standing for the car’s Viscous Traction system. Rather than a conventional full-time 4-wheel drive system, the Viscous Traction system borrowed from the LM002 off-road vehicle acted like a 4-wheel Positraction differential, sending up to 25 percent of the engine’s power to the front wheels, aiding traction during rear tire slip and significantly improving the Diablo’s already impressive handling. The Diablo’s 2-piston Brembo brake calipers were upgraded to 4-piston units, and brake scoops were opened up in the front lower valence for improved cooling.
By the Diablo’s final year in 2001, the VT had been developed to its fullest, its 6.0L V-12 boasting 543 HP, making it the baddest engine ever to power a Diablo.
