Just when the guardians of government thought they had control over collision and fuel economy standards and a smothering national speed limit, along came Lamborghini with the wild and woolly Countach, and while the nanny-statists managed to keep it from the U.S. market for a time, by the early Eighties the Italian carmaker was delivering fully DOT- and EPA-certified examples to our shores. The Countach 5000S was the most powerful and refined of the breed to that time, with the famed mid-mounted V-12 still using side-draft Weber carburetors and delivering upwards of 350 HP at 6,000 RPM.
Only 321 were built before the next generation fuel injection cars, making this 1985 Countach 5000S a rare devil indeed. Conceived in the era when road going supercars were held to the same standards as Can Am racers and brutish sports prototypes like the Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512, this professionally restored 5000S delivers thanks to a recent mechanical service. Appropriately finished in Italy’s national racing color and retaining its original Black interior, this extremely rare and collectible Countach 5000S still captivates today like practically no other car of its time.
