This track-focused model features higher capability than the standard road-car specification by way of racing-derived technology through increased power, weight reduction, maximized aerodynamic efficiency and a more responsive transmission and suspension. The Speciale is the last of the naturally aspirated Ferrari V-8 engines with an incredible soundtrack that urges the driver to experience the 9,000 RPM crescendo with each shift of the F1 dual-clutch 7-speed transmission.
Handling is enhanced by aerodynamic tuning of the body with active and passive devices, which increase downforce and stability at track speeds, while the Formula 1-derived Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes match the Speciale’s high-performance capability. The magnetic dampened suspension reacts to inputs in milliseconds with settings for road or track, managed by the rotating steering-wheel control. Overall weight is reduced by 200 pounds from the 458 Italia through extensive use of carbon-fiber and composites, thinner high-strength materials and by elimination of nonessential elements such as the road car’s traditional glovebox.
