This California-owned 1972 Porsche 911T Targa has a matching 72T engine number, No. 6122244, with 82,101 miles registered on the odometer. It is presented in factory-correct Code 330 Gemini Blue with an interior appointed in two-tone black and tan. It features twin Recaro bucket seats with tall headrests. The car wears a complete set of the era-appropriate Fuchs alloy wheels with polished lips and matte black centers mounted on Toyo radial tires sized 205/60×15, and it features an iconic stainless steel covered roll over hoop.
The engine has been rebuilt, fitted with enhanced performance components sourced from a 911S such as an S model fan shroud with factory-delivered MFI, and the rebuild is documented with receipts. Meanwhile, the body has undergone tasteful modifications that include Carrera-style wider and flared rear fender arches, a “whale-tail” spoiler affixed to the rear decklid, an RSR-style lower front apron with a chin spoiler and rectangular grille opening, a louvered rear tail panel and a GT3-style twin center-exit exhaust system.
In model year 1972, Porsche engineers made a major mechanical design change by moving the dry-sump oil storage tank to a more forward position to help mitigate the rear-end weight bias of the car. This change necessitated locating the oil fill location from inside the engine compartment to the top of the passenger side rear fender. Although it did fulfill its design objective it had the unforeseen consequence of errant gas station attendants mistaking the oil filler location as the gas cap location with some less than positive consequences.
Ironically, this one-year external oil fill lid has become a highly desired feature, making model year 1972 a very highly sought after vintage of Porsche 911. This car comes complete with service records, a factory delivery book, original tool kit and original jack.
