Packard’s stormy history is a tale for the ages. More than just a luxury car manufacturer, Packard built the Liberty engines during World War I, while during World War II, it produced both marine and aircraft engines. Interestingly, during World War II, it was Packard that taught Rolls-Royce the philosophy and practice of mass production for the Merlin engine. As an automobile brand, the company often commanded about 40% of the luxury car market, its dedication to quality, robustness, style, comfort and overall performance a testament to the customer loyalty it enjoyed.

Owned by celebrities, politicians, royalty and industry leaders alike, being part of Club Packard was indeed a sign of one’s successes in life. One of the most popular Packards was the 120 or One-Twenty. Available in a multitude of body styles ranging from coupe to limousine with convertibles and station wagons in between, there was literally something for everyone. This 1941 120 was the subject of a five-year restoration, emerging as a lovely custom Darrin convertible interpretation. Powered by the 282 CI 8-cylinder engine and a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission, the Packard features several desirable details and custom elements, all blending to create a one-of-a-kind car.

A number of custom crafted parts were used to build the Packard, such as the side skirts and front bumpers. Painted Light Yellow, the 120 is very well dressed with triple-plated chrome and brightwork such as the Flying Lady mascot, hubcaps and trim rings, and the infamous grille. The red painted wheels add a dramatic visual moment that matches the Oxblood Red convertible top and leather upholstery with matching carpet; the red interior is offset by the dashboard which sustains the light yellow hue. Fitted with a restored steering wheel, the Packard is equipped with an optional turn-signal lever and rolls on Diamondback radial whitewall tires.

As an excellent homage to the legendary coachbuilder Howard "Dutch" Darrin, this custom 120 is certain to draw crowds and elicit conversations.
