In the world of collector cars, it is possible to find many excellent opportunities, like this 1986 Ferrari Testarossa. A European motor car of exceptional performance, the legendary Ferrari Testarossa bespeaks the mindset of its owner. While some of them have been through many caretakers by now, that is certainly not the case here. Purchased new at Steven Kessler Motorcars in New York, the first owner kept it for only two years. The second owner purchased it from the original owner in 1988 with an eye on preservation. In that effort, success is proven by the car’s two-owner history and a grand total of 15,600 miles showing since new.
The mid-mounted 4.9L flat 12-cylinder engine with dry sump lubrication rumbles behind the driver. This engine is backed by a gated factory five-speed transmission. This spectacular mid-1980s icon boasts the stunning color of Rossa Corsa paint, with excellent interior accompaniments. This includes an Ivory leather upholstery, period-correct dash-mounted Escort radar detector, dealer-installed Nakamichi tape deck and original Ferrari floor mats. A rarely-seen flying mirror rounds out the driver’s equipment, with the car riding on original staggered Goodyear VR50 tires mounted to magnesium single bolt knock-off wheels.
The car most recently benefitted from a major $10,000 engine-removed servicing performed 25 miles ago (in July 2015), a process that included fresh timing belts, accessory and air conditioning belts and new valve cover gaskets, including fresh spark plugs. New air, oil and fuel filters rounded out the effort. Including in the sale is a plethora of provenance, consisting of books and manuals in a leather holder, service records detailing back to 1988 including 1988 PPI report, the factory tools, three original Ferrari keys and a clean Carfax.
