This 2003 Ferrari Enzo is the very definition of exclusivity in a bespoke Ferrari, a one-of-one creation ordered new by Phil Bachman and customized through the factory to the couple’s exacting specifications. Of the 400 examples produced from 2002 through 2004, this Enzo, S/N 135262, is one of 127 built for the U.S. market, one of 36 finished in Giallo Modena DS 4305 and one of just 11 Giallo Enzos delivered to the U.S. Equipped with Engine No. 79700, Gearbox No. 280 and Body No. 108, it is also one of very few Enzos customized by the factory and the most heavily optioned.
Conceived by Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo as the world’s most technically advanced road car, the Enzo was the first production automobile to feature entirely integrated computer controls that constantly communicated with each other to optimize performance. At the center of this symphony was the all-new 6.0L/651 HP V-12 engine, the largest-displacement V-12 since Ferrari’s 1968-69 Can-Am racers, driving a lightning-quick 6-speed automatic gearbox. The results of all the wizardry were stunning, a new benchmark for the supercar world. Phil Bachman’s decision to have Maranello add custom touches to this already magnificent automobile occasioned close involvement with its production.
In fact, he watched the car being built during a visit to the factory, even taking advantage of the opportunity to install a few components himself. The car’s unique features include polished engine bay braces, body-color matching lower trim and rear diffuser panel (instead of black), and a polished chrome “Enzo Ferrari” signature badge on the rear deck in place of the standard Ferrari badge. Most notable of all are the custom Daytona-style seats with bright Rosso and Giallo upholstery; the factory Nero seats with unique Enzo Ferrari signature embroidery are included, along with beautiful Schedoni luggage.
Not surprisingly, the Bachmans’ factory-custom Enzo has been a hit on the show circuit. In April 2007, it scored Best of Show as the centerpiece at the FCA/T. Rutlands Parts Picnic & Concours in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by Platinum and Best of Show at the 2008 Celebration Exotic Car Festival in Orlando, Florida.
In 2010, the car earned the WinStar Cup, signifying First Place for Featured Marque – Ferrari Late class, at the Keenland Concours d’Elegance in Lexington, Kentucky, and then returned in 2014 to accept the Calumet Cup for First Place – Best of Featured Marques; in 2011 it won Platinum and the Supercar Cup at the Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach and was displayed by the Bachmans at the Winter Park Concours d’Elegance in Winter Park, Florida. It again won Platinum and Best Supercar in 2016 at the Ferrari Classiche Concours at the Finali Mondiali at Daytona.
