Having closed out the 20th century with the wonderful 550 and 575 Maranello, Ferrari showed it had already turned its gaze to the future of its front-engine V-12 formula when it debuted the brilliant 599 GTB Fiorano at the February 2006 Geneva Motor Show. One of Pininfarina’s most beautifully styled and aerodynamically efficient designs, the 599 defied first impressions that it was “conventional” when closer inspection revealed uncommon attention to airflow and downforce, all while maintaining that unmistakable Ferrari identity in its arching fenders, egg-crate front grille and Kamm-style rear end.
Its snugly-formed greenhouse introduced separate rear buttresses designed to guide air back around the rear glass and over the rear spoiler in ingenious fashion, adding another signature feature to Maranello’s long tradition of innovation. The 599’s engine, a retuned derivative of the one powering the Enzo hyper-Ferrari, was mounted as close to midship as the set-back cockpit could accommodate, achieving a 47/53 front/rear weight balance for optimal handling and driving the new F1-Superfast 6-speed transmission. Armed with 611 HP at 7,600 RPM, the 599 GTB arrives at 60 MPH in 3.7 seconds and zooms to a top speed of 205 MPH, its 400 pounds of downforce ensuring rock-like stability.
Garage-kept since 2007, this Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano shows just 10,250 miles and has received regular annual servicing to maintain peak performance. Its lustrous black paint is matched inside with tautly fitted, black, leather Daytona-style seats that share the interior space with shapely carbon fiber and brushed aluminum trim in both the driver and passenger zones. Fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tires on alloy wheels from Maranello and Ferrari’s excellent carbon ceramic braking system, this is a definitive expression of the classic front-engine Ferrari, a magnificent grand-touring berlinetta infused with the most sophisticated F1 technology of its moment.
