French title - The last 400i sold new by Pozzi in Levallois-Perret - Only two owners, matching numbers - Extremely elegant colour combination - Scrupulously maintained by Pozzi and then Sampaïo Automobiles (bills) - All its manuals and service book in their original wallet - The last but one Ferrari 400i built - No reserve Following on from Ferrari's 'family-oriented' 250 GTE, 365 GT 2+2, 365 GTC/4 and 365 GT4 2+2 models, the 400i went on sale in 1980. It was an evolution of the 400, which was introduced in 1976 to succeed the 365 GT4 2+2. The letter 'i' denoted the adoption of fuel injection, in this case the Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical system, which was very popular at the time.

With a 4.8-litre engine developing 310bhp, the 400i could transport four passengers at 240kph in absolute comfort, thanks to its roomy and luxuriously finished interior. Altogether, 1306 400i models were built up to 1985. The history of this 400i is unusual for several reasons. It was the last but one Ferrari 400i built and the very last 400i delivered new in France by Charles Pozzi, Ferrari's historical importer based at Levallois-Perret. And that is not all: its first owner was none other than M. Marnier-Lapostolle, the CEO of the 'Société des Produits Marnier-Lapostolle', the company which produced the famous Grand Marnier liqueur.

He took delivery of the car on 5 June 1985; it was equipped with automatic transmission to make it more comfortable to use in the streets of Paris or at Neauphle-le-Château (Yvelines), where his company was based. The 400i is in a special combination of colours, those of Grand Marnier, with plum-coloured paintwork and a cognac leather interior. As well as the special colour combination, he also ordered the centre console and dashboard finished in burr walnut. These bespoke parts were produced at Pozzi's request by the Lecoq workshop. The stamped-up service book and copies of all the bills from Pozzi (from its delivery to the 2010s) prove that it was regularly and meticulously maintained.

He kept the car for 30 years before selling it in 2015 to Matthieu Lamoure, the director of Artcurial Motorcars: "When I was a teenager, I saw the actor Jean-Paul Belmondo driving a Ferrari 400i in the streets of Paris. As I was a big fan of Belmondo, when I saw the car at the home of M. Marnier-Lapostolle, its first owner, some years later, I instantly fell in love with this model which would let me travel in comfort in a Ferrari with all my family!" As soon as Matthieu bought the car, which had covered only 80,000km and needed some work doing, he decided to send it to Sampaïo Automobiles near Le Mans, run by Alfredo Sampaïo, an excellent Ferrari specialist.

He instructed Sampaïo to repair everything which was working badly (or not at all) and to make it a reliable car which he could drive with peace of mind. In work lasting a year, everything was gone over on this Italian beauty: the suspension was rebuilt, along with the complete top end of the engine, the fuel injectors, dual air-conditioning system (front and rear), heating, power steering, exhaust system, radiator and cooling system, as well as attending to numerous electrical issues and replacing the Michelin TRX tyres.

Since this major work costing a total of 33,000 €, the car has always been sent to Sampaïo for a full annual service and for some occasional jobs such as the replacement of an electric window motor, a relay or the like. As the car had spent its life in Paris, it had suffered some knocks to the doors, chipped paint and a few scratches; it has therefore just been repainted to the highest standards by a specialist who works regularly for Sampaïo. With 91,000km from new at the time this catalogue went to press, it is a highly reliable car, where the slightest fault has always been put right, to keep it in perfect mechanical and cosmetic condition.

It starts on the first turn of the key, whether hot or cold. The oil pressure is excellent and the cooling system works perfectly. The original interior is superb, and the leather has been regularly fed. Supplied with both sets of keys, its original Ferrari document wallet with the service book and all the original manuals, the invoice history and its complete tool kit, this Ferrari 400i with its unique history is one of the rare cars we have come across in such condition. Now 'on the button', it is ready to be driven any distance. Please note that the car is sold with a valid technical inspection, of more than 6 month.
