The Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph is a luxury saloon that marked an important chapter in the brand’s history when it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998. Produced until 2002, the Silver Seraph replaced the long-running Silver Spur and represented a fresh era of engineering and design for Rolls-Royce. It was the first new model from the marque in nearly two decades and introduced modern technology while maintaining the classic craftsmanship and elegance for which Rolls-Royce was renowned. At the heart of the Silver Seraph was a 5.4-litre V12 engine supplied by BMW, making it the first Rolls-Royce to feature twelve cylinders since the 1939 Phantom III.
The smooth, quiet power delivery of the V12 matched the brand’s focus on effortless performance and serene driving. Power was transmitted through a five-speed automatic transmission, ensuring refined and unobtrusive acceleration. While performance figures were not the primary selling point, the Seraph offered a composed and dignified driving experience, aligning with Rolls-Royce tradition. The exterior design combined modern lines with unmistakable Rolls-Royce cues such as the tall, imposing grille topped by the Spirit of Ecstasy. Its proportions were stately yet contemporary, appealing to a clientele who desired both prestige and modernity.
Inside, the Silver Seraph continued the company’s legacy of handcrafted luxury. The cabin featured extensive use of fine leather, polished walnut veneer, and meticulous detailing. Every aspect of the interior was designed to provide maximum comfort and exclusivity. Although only around 1,570 examples were built during its short production run, the Silver Seraph played a significant role in transitioning Rolls-Royce into the 21st century. It bridged the gap between the company’s traditional, handcrafted past and the more technologically advanced future under BMW ownership.
Originally registered on 2nd May 2000, this Rolls-Royce presents well in the colour combination of Royal Blue with Magnolia interior, piped blue. The top-roll is blue and has a factory Sat Nav although it should be pointed out this system will need upgrading. The bodywork is generally quite tidy, there are obviously some age-related marks but nothing serious. The car shows a little wear on the drivers’ seat, (to be expected) and bearing in mind this is a 25 year old vehicle which has covered 122,000 miles, it is remarkably comfortable. The engine starts immediately and runs well, the gearbox operates as it should, smoothly and efficiently.
The brakes operate fine and there is some slight knocking from the suspension, again nothing serious and take into account the car past its MoT on 30th April with no advisories. Supplied with a V5 registration document, spare keys and handbooks, given the estimate against a list price of £155,175 this Silver Seraph appears to be excellent value. Consigned by Stewart Banks
