This 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Brewster Huntington Limousine (251 AJS) was delivered new to Mrs. R. Waverly Smith of New York City. The car was delivered on Christmas Eve, 1932 to her home address of Glen Cove, Ritz Carlton Hotel in Long Island, NY. The car was then sold on December 1st, 1939 to Mr. F.B. Pratt of Long Island, NY. The car was listed for sale in the Flying Lady Classified in 1955 from a New York address. That photo shows the car in Black with Black wall tires and wheel discs. The car was then purchased by Mr. Dale Powers from a lady in Miami, FL in 1976 and subsequently sold in 1977 to the current owner, a Sarasota County Rolls Royce enthusiast.
Eventually the engine was completely rebuilt with new camshaft, lifters, sleeves, rings and more by Dale Powers Automotive of St. Petersburg, FL. The current owner also had the radiator rebuilt. The car remained in the current owner’s garage compound in Venice, FL until 2011. The odometer reads 66,428 miles, most likely reflecting original miles, with approximately 2,000 since the engine rebuild. A summer 2011 service included valve adjustment, replacing the electrical fuel pump system and cleaning and repairing the original starter. The autovac unit has been cleaned, repainted and reinstalled; however, fuel is delivered through the electrical pump system.
The engine compartment has been painstakingly cleaned and detailed. After removing old cylinder block paint, we discovered the engine serial number E55B on both cylinder blocks, crankcase, motor mounts, steering box, starting card and several other parts. The fenders and body have been recently stripped and beautifully painted in Mason’s Black with polished alloy bonnet sides. The car is equipped with 6 newly polished wheel discs. Many chromed body parts including the headlights, fenders (wings), front and rear bumpers, wing lamps, bumper badges, and rear tail light were professionally rechromed. The chassis is clean, painted and proper.
New gaitors have been installed on the front and rear of the chassis. The interior upholstery has been freshly installed by a marque specialist. New Black leather covers the front seats, and the complete West of England cloth rear compartment is complimented with the beautiful original wood trim, newly refinished in lacquer. Finishing touches include new silk screens for privacy, beautiful interior accents and a glossy black trunk for the rear of the car. The top and headliner have been completely restored in period correct fabrics. This exquisite Phantom II has been beautifully restored and is ready for the next show or RROC driving tour.
